Pent Sheds: Low-Profile Sheds for Fences and Small Gardens

Quick answer

A pent shed has a single sloping roof, so it stands lower than an apex and sits neatly against a fence, wall or boundary. It suits small gardens and side passages. Check the roof heights, which way the rain runs off, and leave a gap behind for maintenance.

If you have already decided on a pent roof (our apex vs pent guide helps if not), this page gathers the pent sheds we sell in one place, from budget storage to heavy-duty and cottage-style buildings.

Who a pent shed suits

  • Gardens where the shed goes against a fence, wall or the side of the house.
  • Plots close to a boundary where you want to keep the height down.
  • Anyone who likes a cleaner, modern shape.

What to look for in a pent shed

  • Heights: a pent roof is tallest at the front. As an example, the Sovereign Nottingham Pent has a 1937mm eaves and 2153mm ridge, and the Shedlands Dalby Pent a 1953mm ridge. Check the figures on the product page against your spot.
  • Rain run-off: the water goes off one side, usually the back. Leave a gap so it can drain and you can reach round to treat the timber.
  • Cladding and frame: from 10mm overlap on budget models up to 20mm cladding on a 3"x2" frame on the Suresheds Settle Cottage.
  • Security: several pent sheds have reinforced doors and better locks. See security sheds.
  • Base: pick the matching base kit for your brand. See sheds with a base.

Common questions

Which way should a pent shed roof slope?

Usually the tall side is at the front with the door, and the roof falls towards the back. Leave a gap behind so rain can run off and you can treat the timber.

Can a pent shed go right against a fence?

It can sit close, but leave a small gap for airflow, drainage and maintenance. If it is within 2 metres of a boundary, check the height with our planning checker.
