Apex Sheds: Traditional Sheds with Extra Headroom

Quick answer

An apex shed has a two-sided roof that meets at a ridge, giving the most headroom along the middle. It suits workshops, tall storage and open spots in the garden. Check the ridge height for your size, the frame and cladding, and where the door goes.

The apex is the traditional shed shape, with a roof like a little house. If you are still deciding on a roof, our apex vs pent guide compares the two. This page brings together the apex sheds we sell.

Who an apex shed suits

  • Anyone who wants to stand up comfortably inside or fit high shelving.
  • Storing ladders, long-handled tools and bikes.
  • A shed that sits in open space and is seen from all sides.

What to look for in an apex shed

  • Ridge height: an apex gets taller as it gets wider. The Shedlands Dalby Apex runs from 1985mm (4ft wide) to 2280mm (8ft wide); the Sovereign Rutland from 2190mm to 2580mm. Near a boundary, check the 2.5m rule with our planning checker.
  • Door position: most apex sheds have the door in the gable end. The Suresheds Hi Pex puts it on the side for a little extra height inside.
  • Frame and cladding: compare frame sizes and cladding thickness on each product page. Our heavy-duty sheds page lists the stronger builds.
  • Roof covering: felt is standard on most timber sheds, with EPDM rubber upgrades on several ranges.
  • Base: most brands sell a matching base kit. See sheds with a base.

Common questions

What is an apex shed?

A shed whose roof has two sloping sides meeting at a ridge in the middle, like a house roof. It gives the most headroom along the centre.

Is an apex shed taller than a pent shed?

Usually, yes, especially on wider sizes, because the ridge rises as the shed gets wider. Each product page lists the eaves and ridge heights.
