Choosing a garden office
Plan the room around how you work. Allow space for a desk, chair, storage and maybe a second person or a sofa. Our sizes are the outside size of the building, so leave about 18 inches to 2 feet clear around it. Our Find buildings that fit tool will help.
Insulation and build
For use all year, choose an insulated room. Our range includes insulated garden rooms, rooms built from insulated SIP panels and studios with different cladding finishes. Log cabins with thicker walls are another option. Our guide log cabin wall thickness explained compares them.
Power and planning
Some rooms come with electrics included. Others need a qualified electrician to wire in power and lighting. Most garden offices fall within permitted development, but size, height and position all matter, so read our planning permission guide.

Do I need planning permission for a garden office?
Most garden offices fall within permitted development, but height, distance from the boundary and size all matter. Read our planning guide and check with your local council before you buy if you are unsure.
Can I use a garden office in winter?
Yes, if you choose an insulated room. Insulated walls, floor and roof keep the room warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and a small heater does the rest.
Do garden offices come with electrics?
Some of our garden rooms come with electrics included, and the product page will say so. Others need a qualified electrician to wire in power and lighting.
What base does a garden office need?
A garden office needs a solid, level and free-draining base. Some rooms offer a foundation pack or ground screw base as an extra, which saves pouring concrete.

Vista rooms are fully insulated for year-round use; Pent Haus rooms are insulated on the ToughFrame PRO and SignatureSIPs builds.
