Quick answer
Most timber sheds need a firm, level base the same size as the floor. The simplest way is to order the matching base kit from the same brand, in the same size as your shed. Steel Lifelong sheds need no concrete or slab base, while concrete buildings need a concrete base.
The base is the part people often leave until the last minute, but a firm, level base keeps the floor dry and the doors closing properly. Our base guide compares concrete, slabs, timber frames and plastic grids in detail. This page is the short version: which base goes with which shed.
How to choose the right base kit
- Match the brand: each base below is made for its own range.
- Match the size: choose the base size that matches your building. Sovereign put it simply: an 8ft x 6ft shed needs the 8x6 base.
- Check the ground: base kits still need a firm, level surface underneath. Some suit soil, grass, paving or hard standing; check the product page.
- Order together: Suresheds bases can only be ordered with a Suresheds building, because they are made and fitted as part of the same order.
- Not sure? WhatsApp us a photo of your spot and we will advise.

Common questions
Can I put a shed straight on grass?
Not a timber shed on its own. It needs a firm, level base so the floor stays dry and the doors stay square. Some base kits, like the Power Sheds kit, are designed to go on soil or grass.
What size base do I need?
Match the base to your building's floor size. If you are unsure, tell us which building you are ordering and we will confirm it.
