Quick answer
An 8x6 shed is the best all-rounder for a family garden. It takes a mower, bikes and garden tools with space left for shelves or a small bench. Most ranges offer it, so compare the framing, cladding and door, choose apex or pent for your spot, and plan the base before delivery.
If you are not sure what size to get, 8ft x 6ft is usually where people land. It is a noticeable step up from a 6x4: enough room to store bikes without lifting everything else out first, and enough wall space for proper shelving. It still fits comfortably in most back gardens.
Who an 8x6 shed suits
- Families with bikes, a mower and garden furniture to store.
- Anyone who wants a small potting bench or tool wall as well as storage.
- Replacing a tired old shed with something sturdier.

What to look for in an 8x6 shed
- Framing: at this size a stiffer frame makes a difference. Frames range from 44x28mm on the Power Pent up to 58x44mm on the Power Premium range and 44x44mm on the Shedlands Heavy Duty.
- Cladding and floor: tongue and groove or shiplap keeps the weather out better than overlap. Some ranges offer thicker cladding or floor upgrades.
- Door: single or double? Bikes and wheelbarrows are easier with a wider door. The Suresheds Hi Pex puts the door on the side for extra height inside.
- Roof: apex for headroom, pent for fence lines. Our apex vs pent guide compares them.
- Base: plan it before delivery day. Sovereign gives a simple rule: an 8ft x 6ft shed needs the 8x6 base. See sheds with a base.

Common questions
What fits in an 8x6 shed?
Typically a mower, two or three bikes, garden tools and folding furniture, with room for shelving along the walls. Layout matters, so see our shed storage ideas.
Should an 8x6 shed be apex or pent?
Apex if you want to stand comfortably and store tall items; pent if it will sit against a fence or close to a boundary. Many 8x6 sheds we sell come in both.
