New: design your own in our Shed Builder — pick your style, size, doors and windows and watch the price update as you go.
Sheds DIY are made in Britain and built to order, then delivered to you flat-packed as a self-assembly kit. Because every building is made when you order it rather than pulled off a stack, you pick the exact size, the door and window layout and the specification you want — rather than settling for the nearest thing in stock.
The range runs from straightforward apex and pent sheds through to security sheds, potting sheds, summer houses, Georgian summer houses, greenhouses, BBQ sheds and garden bars, with more than 1,500 priced sizes across it. There are composite buildings too if you would rather have something that needs no treating at all.
Both are made in the UK and, in our Shed Builder, come in the same sizes and door options. Both are built on the same Tanalith E pressure-treated 38 x 50mm timber frame — the difference is the skin on the outside.
| Timber | Composite | |
|---|---|---|
| Upkeep | A colour treatment every 2–3 years keeps it looking new | None — no painting or treating. No rot, no warp, and it wipes clean |
| Warranty | 20-year anti-rot guarantee | 30-year manufacturer warranty on the composite cladding, plus the 20-year anti-rot guarantee on the timber frame |
| Roof | Mineral felt, with an EPDM rubber upgrade available | EPDM rubber roof included |
| Cladding | 16mm tanalised shiplap, or 22mm loglap on Heavy Duty | WPC composite boards over a BBA-certified breathable membrane on the timber frame |
| Colours | Paint or stain it any colour, and change it later | Dark Ash or Sandal Wood as standard; Oak Wood or Red Cedar at a small extra cost. Colour runs right through the board (can't be repainted) |
| Best for | Choosing your own colour and changing it when you fancy | Putting it up and forgetting about it — ideal if you've had enough of timber upkeep |
What's behind the composite cladding

Do I have to treat it? Timber arrives tanalised, so it's protected from day one. A colour treatment every 2–3 years keeps it looking new — check the guarantee terms for exactly what's asked. Composite needs nothing at all.
What does Heavy Duty change? Just the cladding: 16mm shiplap becomes 22mm loglap. The 38 x 50mm framework and the 20-year anti-rot guarantee are the same on Standard and Heavy Duty.
Tanalised or dip-treated? Tanalised, with Tanalith E. The timber is vacuum pressure-treated, which drives the preservative into the wood rather than just coating the outside the way dipping does.
Is a composite building all composite? No — the composite is the skin; the frame is timber. Every building uses the same Tanalith E treated timber frame, and composite adds a BBA-certified breathable membrane between the frame and the boards. That's why the cladding carries its own 30-year warranty from the board maker, with the 20-year anti-rot guarantee covering the frame.
Can I paint it any colour? Timber, yes — paint or stain it any colour and change your mind later. Composite comes in 4 wood-look colours (choose yours from the Colour options on each composite building) and can't be repainted; that's the one thing timber can do that composite can't.
Does composite fade? The boards are UV-stabilised and rated to hold their colour to within 10% over 10 years.
Most models can be upgraded: Heavy Duty 22mm loglap cladding, Georgian windows, an EPDM rubber roof in place of felt, and different door configurations. If you want something more specific than the sizes listed here, use our shed builder to configure your building exactly how you want it before you buy.
Buildings arrive flat-packed and are designed for straightforward DIY assembly — panels are pre-built, so it is a case of fixing them together rather than making them. Delivery timescales and access requirements are confirmed when you order.
Rather not build it yourself? Add professional installation when you order — one flat price whatever the size, within 185 miles of the manufacturer's West Midlands workshop. The manufacturer's own team brings your building and puts it up on your prepared, level base on the same visit, so there is no separate delivery date. You'll get a call after ordering to agree a date (currently around 4–6 weeks ahead). Choosing an EPDM roof? Professional fitting also takes its warranty from 20 to 30 years.
You will need a level, solid base the same size as the building's floor ready for delivery day. Not sure what you need? Send us a photo of the spot and we will tell you.
