Garden Buildings in Cannock

Buying a garden building in the Cannock area comes with one or two things you won't find everywhere, mainly because of the Chase itself. Here's what to know, from getting to our display site to the planning points specific to the district.

Visiting from Cannock

The display site is east of Cannock, near Tamworth. Head east on the A5 and follow your sat nav to B78 3EQ – about 18 miles, usually 25 to 30 minutes. Planning permission in Cannock Chase

The planning authority is Cannock Chase District Council. Its "Do I need permission?" page is clear that the council doesn't give advice on permitted development rights and that it's up to you to decide. Points specific to the district:

• Conservation areas: the council's building conservation page names Cannock Town Centre, North Street (Bridgtown), Main Road (Brereton), Rugeley Town Centre, Sheepfair/Bow Street, Talbot Street/Lichfield Street (Rugeley), Church Street (Rugeley) and the Trent and Mersey Canal.
• Cannock Chase National Landscape: parts of the district fall within it (it used to be called an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). It counts as designated land, so an outbuilding at the side of the house needs permission, and there are limits on buildings more than 20m from the house.
• The Special Area of Conservation: the council's page explains an extra approval step for some work that could affect the Cannock Chase Special Area of Conservation. If your home backs onto the Chase, read it before you order.
